Frequently asked questions

Have questions about eligibility or how Zillow Preview works? Explore common questions below.

Can agents access Zillow Preview independently?

No. Zillow Preview is available only through brokerages that have partnered with Zillow for this program. Agents interested in using Zillow Preview should speak with their brokerage leadership about participation. Send them this page to make sure they sign up.

Where do Zillow Preview listings appear?

Zillow Preview listings appear on Zillow and Trulia, as well as the participating brokerage and agent’s own websites. This ensures early and broad exposure on a public marketplace while maintaining broker branding.

How long can a listing be in the “Preview” period?

There is no fixed default duration. The length of the Zillow Preview period is determined by the agent and depends on: the seller’s strategy, the agent’s marketing plan and local rules and requirements.

Can agents test different pricing during the Preview window?

Yes. Zillow Preview gives agents flexibility to adjust pricing during the pre-market period.

Because the listing is publicly visible and generates engagement signals, agents can use real-time buyer response to refine pricing and strategy before the listing goes fully active.

How is “Days on Market” handled?

Zillow Preview is designed to operate within local MLS frameworks, and brokers and agents are responsible for understanding and complying with their local rules.

During the Zillow Preview period, if the agent and seller choose to display Days on Zillow on the Zillow Preview listing, that count will continue once the listing becomes active in the MLS where allowed under local MLS rules.

If the agent and seller choose not to display Days on Zillow during the Zillow Preview phase, Days on Zillow will begin when the listing goes fully active in the MLS where allowed under local MLS rules.

Once active, standard MLS and Zillow display practices apply.

Does Zillow Preview enable me to follow local MLS rules?

Yes. Zillow Preview is structured to operate within local MLS frameworks, and brokers and agents are responsible for understanding and complying with their local rules.

If a local MLS does not permit public pre-marketing, agents and brokers should follow that policy and refrain from publishing a listing in Zillow Preview.

In markets where certain forms of pre-marketing are permitted, Zillow Preview provides a way to bring listings to a broad consumer audience earlier in the process, consistent with local MLS rules.

Can buyers tour or submit offers on a Zillow Preview listing?

With Zillow Preview, buyers can request tours in advance so they’re scheduled for on or after the listing's go‑live date.
